This is Folk Week's 45th year displaying various events in a week.
The festival is a happy, community event and aimed that everyone who
comes to the festival- have a great time and enjoying the events in a terrific
athmosphere.
There will be music, concerts and dances. Concerts in the Concert Marquee in the Pierremont Part.
Folk/Country/Social Dancing Workshops at Upton School which include: Contra - a longways dances in the American style. Playford- 17th and 18th century English country dances, or modern dances in the old styles. Square- Four couples arranged in a square. Traditional dances - collected from English Villages with various formation and steps. Scottish Dances - traditional and modern, plus tea dances, evening dances and a play ball and some caller work shops of all standards.
Have the opportunity to learn to play instrument, or improve your techniques and repertoire. The tutors are competent and approachable which gladly accept participators of all ages. Workshops are open to everyone. Music worshop include: accordion, banjo, cajon, concertina, didgeridoo, fiddle, fiddle and singing, fretted instruments, harmonica, hurdy gurdy, melodeon, pocket instruments, rhythm, whistles and flutes, and guitars.
Let us use our voices, voice workshops include: African song, Beginning singing, Fiddle and singing, Pop song of the 20th century, Songs with humour, Toddlers' singalong, Unchained harmnony, and Vocal techniques for folk styles.
Welcome dance on Friday 6th August at Upton School from 19.30-2230. Opening concert- A little bit country music at the Concert Marquee at 20.00-22.30
